Were strapping young dudes who didn’t take any flack
When they partied in the bars around Shreveport on Saturday nights

In these blue collar bars there were a lot of big brutes
Lew’s mouth would start trouble and Mac resolved the disputes
These two were chasing after women and getting into lots of fist fights

Vicki was the daughter of Peggy and Butch
And Peggy was protective of her daughters like an old mother hen

Vicki was a looker and Peggy was determined to guard her daughter from undesirable men

The Beatles broke up, Charles Manson was sentenced, the Ed Sullivan Show said farewell and took its final bows

But more important to all of us gathered today
A young couple in shreveport were busy exchanging their vows

Lew’s step-dad relocated and of course took his mother
they left him still in high school in the care of big brother
So he had one foot still in school and one foot in the local saloon

Lew had a job at a Kentucky Fried Chicken
He saw Vicki there one night and he was instantly stricken
He was a high school sports star, tall and handsome he made all the girls swoon.

And in just three months these two became a serious couple
In Lew and Mac’s apartment all alone one night about to make sin there

And Peggy showed up unannounced, pounding on the door, yelling “VIcki come out here right now! Vicki are you in there?”

Vicki said yes and she got married to Lew
and in those early years there wasn’t much that they didn’t do
They went Camping, water skiing, skinny dipping, spending time on the lake

Butch was a big shot in the business of meat, he hired Lew to manage his processing fleet
Lew learned how to be a leader and how to grill a helluva steak.

By then they had two daughters and their family bonds had
Grown so tight you never would have thought that they could someday unravel

But they couldn’t see the future so they couldn’t have known
That Lew would soon be given a reason to travel.

Lew remembered all the good times they’d had out on the lake,
he quickly realized that he had made a mistake
And also quickly realized that his new wife was completely coo coo

He quit his job in Alabama and divorced the new wife,
made a bee line back to Shreveport to recover his life
But Vicki was a looker and there was now another man in the queue

And so Vicki had to ask herself: “do I choose this new man or the father of my children who broke my heart into two?

And with her heart she made an easy and a rational decision and one all of us agree with
she chose our man Lew
