During the day, I bussed tables, washed dishes.

Like any songwriter, I wanted my songs to be heard.

And some nights I was lucky to leave the premises alive

I dreaded to play there but every Friday I did it
I would slink into depression and I would sweat quite profusely
My doctor prescribed for me prozac and before I played I’d need a pill

I hated these bikers, but I skillfully hid it
I’d be half way through my first song and they’d start to abuse me
The crowd would yell, “this song sucks! Why don’t you play margaritaville?”

This gig didn’t pay well and I suffered from chronic depression
So I had the good sense to rethink the music profession
I gave up on songwriting. A sensible, prudent decision
You must have incredibly thick skin to be a musician

These guys all worked hard and thought that my job was easy
They were hard workin’ blue collar boys so I get it
And with shouts of “play free bird” and “sabbath” my first set was peppered

These boys all worked construction, and were happy to tease me
Every Friday, I knew it was coming and I’d dread it.
The crowd would yell, “this song sucks! Why don’t you play some Def Lepard?”
