Lyrics

Years ago, my girl and I, were asked if we’d attend a Christmas party
We were ambivalent about it, we went back and forth on whether we should go
We both had jobs and both in school and neither of us prone to show up tardy
And it was 30 miles away and the streets were covered deep with fallen snow

We only planned to stay an hour and so we made the drive from Champaign back to Danville
And it was very well attended we saw high school friends we hadn’t seen in years
But in the wise words of Mike Tyson everybody’s got themselves a little plan till
They get punched right on the mouth and in one moment all that planning disappears

Someone offered us some acid, we’d both done it once or twice so nothing shocking
The last time we both did it, it was mild, we got bored and we just stopped it
And after all, it was Christmas time, we joked that it was candy in our our stocking!
So we smiled at each other one last time and then together we both dropped it

Acid at Christmas

It takes about an hour for the drug to work its psychedelic mission
We were sitting in the living room ensconced upon a very comfy chair
With my girlfriend on my lap, I turned my head to change just slightly my position
And I saw a streaming burst of colors when my face brushed up against my girlfriend’s hair

I told my girlfriend look we’ve got to go before we get much worse and then we’re stranded
If we leave now we can make it home before the acid really starts to kick
But my girlfriend laughed hysterically and wouldn’t stop, “stop laughing!” I demanded.
I dragged her from the party by her arm, I must have looked like such a prick!

Acid at Christmas

It was my girlfriends car so she got in the drivers seat and started the ignition
But it was obvious the driver’s seat was not the seat right now for her to be on
I said, “ok then let’s change places, I’ll drive, you’re not in suitable condition
I got behind the wheel and the snow was glowing brightly just like neon

I put the car in drive and slowly started down the street and saw a cop car lurking
I couldn’t tell if we were sliding on the ice, my depth perception had been skewed
I couldn’t tell if I had turned the headlamps on or if my brakes were even working
And I knew that if that cop car pulled us over we’d be absolutely screwed

Acid at Christmas

I noticed that my girlfriend had stopped laughing and possessed a look of terror
I asked her what the matter was, she pointed toward her window finger stiff
I looked out the drivers window and did a double take as if there’d been some error
It appeared that we were driving on the edges of a craggy mountain cliff!

We made it safely back to our apartment, we were happy beyond measure
We broke up shortly after this adventure, it just wasn’t meant to be
When you survive a brush with death itself, the little things can bring you the most pleasure
And we proceeded to have intercourse together underneath the Christmas tree
